Passafire at the State Theater
Passafire are currently cruising up and down the East Coast promoting their new album "Vines". It's been a few years since I last saw these guys, but when I got the notice that they were playing the State Theater just down the street from my new home in Falls Church, VA I couldn't pass it up. They played a fantastic show and I highly recommend checking them out. Vines Spring Tour
Turbonegro at the El Rey
The first time I saw Turbonegro was in December 2004 at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. One of my friends was working with a crew hired to film the show and they needed an extra camera guy. I had no idea who Turbonegro was or what I was getting myself into... Let's just say it was an experience I will never forget... If you ever have the opportunity to see these guys play live, go! I don't care what else you have going on, or if you've never even heard one of their songs. Just go! You will not be disappointed.
The Expendables at The House of Blues
The Expendables played another sold out show at the House of Blues - Sunset Strip on Saturday night. Good times all around.
Refused at the Henry Fonda
Swedish hardcore punk band Refused ended the US leg of their very unlikely 2012 reunion tour at the sold out Henry Fonda Theater in spectacular fashion. I was lucky enough to snag a pair of tickets to what will probably be the bands last-ever United States gig.
Holy Grail at the Troubadour
Holy Grail is an thrash metal band with roots right here in good ol' Los Angeles, CA. Ever since a friend of mine handed me their Improper Burial EP back in late 2009 I was hooked and thought that they would be a great band to shoot.
Paganfest 2012 - Turisas at the Key Club
On Wednesday the 18th, Paganfest rolled through Hollywood, CA. Headlining the tour was the Finnish folk metal band Turisas with support by Alestorm, Arkona and Huntress. This was my third time seeing Turisas, but it was their first headlining tour of North America. Turisas was fantastic as usual, the crowd was super energetic and it was nice to get to experience an extended set from them. Special thanks to Century Media Records for hooking up the photo pass, photos of Alestorm and Arkona will be posted soon.
Devil Driver & Skeletonwitch at Club Nokia
Back in September I was invited to photography Arch Enemy at Club Nokia here in Los Angeles. The show was quite impressive and two of the three opening bands were Devil Driver and Skeletonwitch. When I initially edited my Arch Enemy photos I had planned on editing the other bands soon after, well life got in the way and although I realize that it's been almost six months since the show, I finally had a moment to sit down and go through the photos. Better late then never I suppose...
The Expendables at Club Nokia
Shot my buddies The Expendables again last month. They opened for Pepper at Club Nokia in downtown LA. The guys put on a great show as usual and as always it was a fun show to shoot.
Arch Enemy at Club Nokia
On Tuesday I had the opportunity to photograph Sweden’s own Arch Enemy at Club Nokia in downtown LA. The show was insane and a ton of fun to shoot, it’s always a plus when you really like the band you got asked to photograph. Arch Enemy only has a few dates left on their North American Khaos tour so if you’re close to any of the upcoming stops you should definitely check it out. If you are not familiar with their music, check out their newest video Bloodstained Cross which is by far my favorite song on their new album Khaos Legions, the breakdowns, guitar solos and chorus are so good.
The Expendables at The Roxy
So back in February my buddies The Expendables called me up and asked me to come out and shoot their show at the Roxy in West Hollywood. I had just received my new 5D Mark II and was super excited to try it out in a concert environment. Well, I got a little over-excited and I wasn’t ready for the super fast shutter speed on my new camera. I ended up taking over 2500 photos and killing two and a half 16GB memory cards… Let’s just say it took me a little while to edit through all the photos and then finally pick a few of my favorites…
Turisas at the Fox Pomona
Turisas opened for Cradle of Filth during their “Creatures of the Black Abyss” tour when they stopped off at the Fox Theater in Pomona, CA. I was especially excited to photograph Turisas because I’ve been waiting for them to come back to the states for a few years now. Ever since I saw them open for Ensiferum back in 2007 I’ve wanted to shoot them. They put on an awesome show and was definitely not disappointed. Turisas is currently promoting their new album Stand Up and Fight which was released on March 8, 2011. I’ve given it a few listens and so far it has turned out to be a pretty good album.
Cradle of Filth at the Fox Pomona
British Black Metal band Cradle of Filth stopped over at the historic Fox Theater in Pomona during their “Creatures from the Black Abyss” tour on February 5th. The tour, in support of their latest concept album Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa, which centers on the demon Lilith, the first wife of the biblical Adam, also featured American Psychedelic Metal band Nachtmystium, Finnish Folk Metal band Turisas and the Finnish Rock band HIM’s side project, Daniel Lioneye. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the show, I’m still working on my Turisas picks so I’ll be posting those up later.
Eluveitie at the House of Blues - Hollywood
Eluveitie is an eight piece folk metal band from Switzerland. They fuse traditional Celtic folk music and Gothenburg melodic death metal with such a seamless masterful perfection that it boggles the mind. The show was absolutely amazing, the natural energy that this band produces has to be seen and heard to believe. I was first introduced to these guys when they opened for Ensiferum and Turisas on the 2008 PaganFest Tour, I was blown away from the start.
Pour Habit – Winter Blackout Tour
Straight out of Compton, Pour Habit is probably one of the most refreshing new hardcore punk bands that I’ve heard in a while. Their sound is unique and their energy on stage is unparalleled, just the perfect band to get the crowd at the House of Blues in Hollywood riled up and ready for the rest of the show. I’ve been wanting to photograph these guys ever since I was first turned on to their album “Suiticide” about a year ago. If you’ve never heard of them, you should definitely check them out. pourhabit.com
Passafire – Winter Blackout Tour
All I can say about Passafire is that when I got their new album “Everyone On Everynight” from one of my friends, having never heard of them prior, it stayed on constant rotation in car for about three weeks straight and has definitely made it’s way into my top favorites albums of all time, it’s just that good. Needless to say the dudes from Savannah, GA are even better live and put on a great show at the House of Blues – Sunset Strip in Hollywood. passafiretheband.com
Iration – Winter Blackout Tour
With all band members hailing from Hawaii, Iration put on an excellent show at the House of Blues – Sunset Strip in Hollywood. If you’re into the reggae/rock sound then you should definitely check them out, they have a new album “Time Bomb” dropping March 16th on Pepper’s Law Records. irationmusic.com
The Expendables – Winter Blackout Tour
The Expendables headlined at the House of Blues – Sunset Strip in Hollywood last Saturday night. They put on an amazing performance as usual. I have to say it’s been awesome to have had the opportunity to see my friends from Santa Cruz go from an opening act at a tiny venue in San Francisco to headlining a 5 band, 44 venue, 53 day, completely sold out US tour. They definitely deserve every bit of it. theexpendables.net
The 69 Eyes at the Key Club
Tuesday night I photographed The 69 Eyes at the Key Club in Hollywood. I’ve been a fan of the self proclaimed “Helsinki Vampires” for a few years now, their sound can be compared to a gothic Elvis Presley, mixed with Billy Idol and The Sisters of Mercy. The show was great as usual, the guys are true performers that never fail to impress! Thanks to The End Records for hooking up the photo pass. If your interested in checking out The 69 Eyes, you can find more info here: www.69eyes.com
3 Inches of Blood – Knitting Factory
On 9.9.09 I had the opportunity to photograph “3 Inches of Blood” at their album release show in Hollywood. The guys killed it, the show was awesome. Thanks to George at Century Media Records for hooking up the photo pass. If you’ve never heard of these guys and you’re into Pure F@#king Metal, you definitely have to check them out: www.3inchesofblood.com
NoFX at the Canyon Club
Back in February when I photographed The Expendables they just happened to be opening for one of my all time favorite punk bands, NoFX. So anyways, I couldn’t just pass up the opportunity to shoot them as well, now could I? It was a great experience and I hope to have the chance to do it again.
The Expendables at the Canyon Club
A few weeks back I got invited to go shoot The Expendables when they opened for NoFX at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, CA. I was stoked to have had the opportunity and thank my buddy Shaun for hooking it up. I’ve shot the guys before when they headlined at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz and when they opened for Fishbone in SF. But that was a few years back and I didn’t really know what I was doing back then… Anyways, I’m pretty stoked on how these came out, I just hope they like them also…
